ABOUT

About

We at Ignite Counselling and Wellness are committed to providing quality, accessible mental health and wellness care. Our mission is to provide person-centered, compassionate and empowered services while recognizing and being responsive to the unique things that make us diverse. We acknowledge the impact of living in a society that prioritizes and privileges the dominant culture and discriminates against and oppresses those who are considered “other.” We understand that we are in a position of trust and are responsible to our community and clients to observe high standards of conduct. The following guidelines that we adhere to are additive to, rather than a replacement for, our professional codes of conduct (see below) and have been adapted, in part, from the Feminist Code of Ethics.

As individuals engaged in the wellness profession:

  • We welcome all of you into the counselling space; including your mind, emotions, bodies, beliefs, values and recognize that our profession has not always been accepting of diverse identities.

  • We identify that no space may be entirely safe, but we strive to make the counselling space safe for personal exploration and growth.

  • We are aware of the meaning and impact of our personal identities and the privilege we hold as aspects of our intersecting identities align with the dominant culture.

  • We acknowledge the innate power in our roles as professionals and actively work to dismantle power differential between client and counsellor and de-mystify the process of therapy.

  • We recognize that economic inequality and a lack of insurance are prevalent in our community and can impede access to quality and timely mental health care. Our fee schedule and sliding scale policy are informed by this disparity.

  • We actively participate in our community and align ourselves with social justice work that fights inequality, creates awareness of privilege and minimizes oppression.

  • We honour the traditional Treaty 6 territory that our practice is located upon and appreciate the many Indigenous peoples who have contributed to the rich history of the area.

New Clients

We recognize that the process of finding a new counsellor can be difficult.  What will the first appointment look like?  What's expected of me?  How will I know if my counsellor is going to meet my needs?

Free 15 Minute Phone Consultation

We believe a good fit between client and counsellor is one of the most important aspects of the counselling process.  A phone consultation is a great opportunity to ask questions, learn about how our team practices and what to expect from your counselling appointment.

Book Online

Our convenient online booking service allows you to view counsellor availability and schedule appointments any time including phone consultations.
